We now have the boxes for ink cartridges. If you would like to drop off your cartridges just let me know. Not all cartridges qualify for this program so I will go thru them & ship. I am also going to find a place to send the unqualifying ones. We do have a download now on the list of qualifying cartridges.

Dogswalk against Cancer!
Mood:  energetic

Guess what???  Gunny and Lobo will be making themselves useful at the Dogswalk Against Cancer this Saturday morning!  Don't miss your chance to see the two survivors in action!  I will also be taking my pit, Brutus, formerly known as Fudge, and a few other pits!  I had the only pit bulls there last year so this year we want to show everyone once again, that pit bulls can be the best behaved at the event!  Come out and support Gunny and Lobo and the North Meck team!  If you would like to join up with us there is still time!  Shoot me an email at nmeckanimalrescue@yahoo.com and I will forward you the info!  I look forward to seeing you there and so do the boys!

On a better note
Mood:  lucky
Topic: What 's happening

Well it's been a few months since we have made an entry!  We are back and ready to tell you all of the wonderful, terrible and interesting things that have been happening around here!  We have received updates from Nova, Hank, Rippy, Kona, Opies and Ozarks new forever homes and all is well!!!! We couldnt be happier for them!   We recently saved a little chihuahua named Lobo from euthanasia and you can read all about him and his progress on his page of our website!  We are running a fundraising campaign to recycle old or broken cell phones, digital cameras, and ink cartridges.
We are about to start a mass fundraising effort in order to raise enough money to build a new kennel system at the property we have purchased for the rescue.  If you would like to help us by fundraising for us then please get in contact with us and we can offer a few different ideas that might fit right into your life and make it easy to fundraise for us!

I will be updating you soon on all the happenings but for now I gotta run....

Our Open Letter
Mood:  sad
Many of you getting this email have adopted from us in the past. Hopefully through that adoption you gained a beloved family member. NMAR accomplished 356 adoptions in 2007 alone, and nearly 170 thus far this year. Sadly, short of either a miracle or some unbelievable outpouring from sponsors yet unknown, due to lack of funding we are going to have to close at the end of this year.  It will put an end to 6 years of trying to save as many dogs as we possibly could.  We feel so privileged to be able to say that in our years of existence, approximately 1300 dogs made it from some pretty rough situations into some wonderful, loving homes.

Terry's husband Steve has had his job of 28 years outsourced. Without that support we can't continue. Although many kind individuals have made donations throughout the years,  we have never gotten any formal funding or sponsorship of any kind.  We do not now, nor have we ever, paid ourselves any salaries for the time we spend running the rescue.  Over the years a majority of the rescue’s expenses have always been paid from our own pockets.

In this world, you just never know how information may travel, or who may have suggestions or ideas.  Although it is a long-shot, we wanted to make all of you aware of the situation in case you know of individuals or organizations who may be able to help the rescue to continue in some capacity.  Please feel free to share our story as you see fit.  Any day now, you may even see a story about our dilemma in The Charlotte Observer.  We have been speaking with the reporter who published Gunny’s story (more on Gunny later) and had an Observer photographer come and do a photo shoot to accompany the story.

In the meantime, we still have dogs that desperately need homes and bills that will have to continue to be paid. If you have thought about adding to your canine family please take a look at our website and see if any of our sweet dogs might fit into your home. If you have friends thinking of adopting please tell them about us and have them fill out an application.

Lastly if you can help with a donation, it would be so incredibly appreciated.  Our dogfood bill alone is nearly $800.00 a month. Of course that doesn’t even factor in the vast medical bills that accumulate, nor any of the other monthly bills accrued in order to keep the dogs safe and healthy.

On a happier note.... Some of you are familiar with Gunny's story. Many of you have probably never heard of him. Either way please take a moment to watch this amazing video of one of our best stories ever. This is why we've spent years saving dogs. His spirit and will to survive are what it's all about.  On the sadder side of this story, it looks like Gunny will need another surgery, for which we have committed to pay.  There is just so much we want to be able to do for all of these dogs, and it breaks our hearts that it seems we will no longer be able to do that.

You can look at our available dogs, email us your thoughts and ideas, or make donations via Paypal through our website www.northmecklenburganimalrescue.org
If you’d rather contact us, or donate, by mail, our mailing address is:

Thank you for all of your support over the years and for taking the time to read about our current situation.  We greatly appreciate all that you have already done for us, as well as anything you may be able to do for the dogs now.
Sincerely,
Terry, Beth and our group of dedicated volunteers

We are going to have to close
Mood:  sad
Topic: What 's happening

I am very sad & depressed to write this blog.  We will be closing our rescue within the next 6 months. My husband's job of 28 years is being outsourced. The rescue is not financially able to make it on it's own at this time.

Gunny & Amy's video is on a blog by John Woestendiek in the Baltimore Sun!

Click here to  see it http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/mutts/blog/2008/07/a_tribute_to_gunny_and_his_fri.html#more

I got to hold sweet Rhyan yesterday! She is so little & cute!

Hoping the weather is good tomorrow so all can cook out and have a good 4th! We do hate fireworks here at the rescue. Please keep your dogs safe in your house during them. There will be many people looking for there lost dogs tomorrow!

The men came out again and looked at the creek...they are looking for solutions...but nothing so far that we can do.

Have a safe 4th of July!
